Mil News Russian Military News & Discussion

Russia’s state-owned Rostec handed over modernised A-50U long-range Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) aircraft to the military.
The A-50U can detect fundamentally new types of aircraft, and is also capable of simultaneously tracking a greater number of targets and guided fighters than the previous modification.

Cannot understand why you would go back to something that first flew in 1981 and build a 'new' one

Good to see that they are going to build 9 more over the next 20+ or so years - funds permitting

Just remind me how many B21's the Americans are building

The Eastern Military District announced a snap combat readiness inspection. It will test the ability of units to complete missions after conducting a long-distance movement. This is likely cover for the units being moved towards Ukraine

Have they reach California yet?

It won't matter in total nuclear war.

Nah, just Georgia so far ;-)

@BCNTM they are far from being able to compete with USA, I guess they are "making do" to address a strategic gap relatively cheaply.
The Tu-95 MSM modernisation is I suppose comparable, newer weapons / life in the old dog.
US is finally re-engining the B-52 and has always had various modernisation for it and B1, if it aint broke.
PAKDA is some time away .. funds permitting ;-) though we don't know how capable that will be.
Su-57 and Su-75 work I guess?
Technologically US has a far lead and it's rapid development projects of the last few years extended it.
Russia weak.... but it's a massive existential threat ;-)

Interesting question - there have been various reports that just before Xmas that Russia tested a S550 in the Arctic?

From what I can glean, it was 'only' a S500

Anyone got a link to anything reliable I might not have seen that would indicate if it was a S500 or a S550?

Platform is tested and proven to work.
In order to field startegic bomber which have to be reliable (it needs to work to deliver nukes) you need time, time, time and more time and then you need money :)
Maybe larger Okhotnik 2 will assume role of strategic bomber in the future ?

TASS claims Russia’s new S-550 air defense system has successfully passed state trials and entered combat service.
RIA reported that, while there is active work being done on the S-550, no full-scale prototypes have been built so far and there are no live-fire tests scheduled yet,
Official MOD says nothing.

Even if it exists why would they test it in Arctic, it is super long range to shoot satelites and AFAIK Santa can't fly that high.

Flights in a dream and in reality

Why does Russia need the Tu-160M, which is expensive and meaningless

Really, guys. Novaya Gazeta is an absolute trash of a source, having such famous "military" experts as Felgengaur and such, with zero military experience.

Developers of the robot cosmonaut "Fedor". We have started testing the autonomous security robot "Marker". The Marker robotic platform began to be tested at the Russian Vostochny Cosmodrome. During the run-in of the security robot, autonomous patrolling of security routes, identification and interception of violators, counteraction to terrorist attacks and the fight against drones are practiced.

Published footage of the calculations of the operational-tactical missile complex "Iskander-K" and the launch of the cruise missile R-500 in Ukraine. Iskander is a family of operational and tactical missile systems that has been in service with the Russian army for 15 years. Iskander is not a single missile system, but several modifications of various missiles. The basis of the Iskander-K complex is the 9K728 cruise missile, also known as the R-500, the launch of which is shown in the video. The missile has incredible accuracy, and is capable of hitting targets with an accuracy of up to two meters. Officially, the range of the R-500 missile is about 500 kilometers, but many sources believe that the actual range of the missile is 2000-2500

The Russian army used new weapons for the first time in Ukraine, the work of the remote mining engineering system "Agriculture" was filmed near Kharkov. The video shows the moment of remote installation of minefields. The operation of this installation is similar to the work of the Grad MLRS. The difference is that instead of the warhead of a 122 mm rocket, they carry cassettes with mines. After the installation of mines, this territory is plotted on an electronic map, there is no need to carry out mine clearance manually, mines can be remotely deactivated.

Uralvagonzavod specialists will begin live firing tests of the newest heavy assault robot, created on the basis of the T-72 tank chassis, in April. In case of successful testing, the heavy combat robot will be promptly adopted by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and put into mass production. It is reported that the "Assault" is a robotic complex that includes several machines.

The corvette "Gremyashchy" of the Pacific Fleet launched a rocket of the newest Russian anti-submarine complex "Answer". The 91RE2 anti-submarine missile is launched from universal ship launchers. In the area where the target is located, the rocket drops a torpedo by parachute into the water. Next, the torpedo independently searches for a submarine using its sonar equipment. Missile guidance can be carried out not only by ships, but also by anti-submarine helicopters and airplanes. The firing range of the missile is about 50 km, the flight speed is Mach 2.5. The MPT anti-submarine torpedo is installed on the 91RE2 rocket as a warhead, which can reach speeds of up to 45 knots with a range of 8 km and a depth of up to 450 m. That's all for today. Friends, thanks for watching, we will cover everything.
