Special Forces soldier holding a Draco symbol, the Dacian battle flag as seen on Trajan Column
Also the soldiers who graduate the SF selection course and are integrated into a SF unit will receive at the graduation, beside the beret, a knife resembling the Dacian/Thracian battle knife called Sica (of which were numerous enough archaeological findings)
The Sica knife was introduced into the ancient Roman empire by the Thracian and Dacian mercenaries and become one of the iconic weapons used in gladiators fights, but also one of the preferred weapons of assassins and rebels.
It became so infamous that one of the used names for hired assassins through the Roman empire was "sicarii" (the ones who use a sica), a name preserved over time and still used even today in Italy, Spain and Latin America countries
And some pics with SF from various deployments in Afghanistan
and one during a mission "deep inside enemy territory"
the main source of inspiration for the modern incarnation of Romanian SOF were the US SF (aka Green Berets), so beside the usual direct action and "hit and run" missions they are trained and prepared for prolonged actions "behind enemy lines" and live there "of the land" or with minimal resources for longer periods, all by themselves and blending in the environment, something which was also a main element of Romanian SOF like units even way before joining NATO.
