The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte Zegarra, led the ceremony at the Army General Headquarters in the district of San Borja, presenting the Armed Forces personnel deployed to support the National Police during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC 2024) Forum.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén Olaya; the Minister of Defense, Walter Astudillo Chávez; the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General David Ojeda Parra, among others.
A total of 5,600 members from the Armed Forces branches — Army, Navy, and Air Force — have been deployed to support the National Police of Peru (PNP) as part of the State of Emergency declared in 14 districts of Lima and Callao.
In her speech, the Head of State emphasized that the Armed Forces are prepared to face the challenges of internal security in support of the PNP. "Thank you for your commitment and bravery. You have our support. We stand by your side, and together we will continue working so that all Peruvians can live in a safer, more inclusive country with greater opportunities," she stated.
"With discipline, bravery, and dedication, our Armed Forces are prepared to face any challenge. And during APEC, they will work hand in hand with the National Police to ensure security prevails," the President remarked.
General David Ojeda, in turn, reaffirmed the commitment to protect the Peruvian population within their constitutional roles, especially in the jurisdictions declared in emergency. "We are builders of peace, promoters of development, and guardians of stability. We are that strong arm and helping hand in adversity," stated the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces.
The military personnel will take to the streets starting today to join the tasks carried out by Armed Forces units deployed since the first day of the State of Emergency through the Central Operational Command (3,500), the Maritime Operational Command (1,600), the Air Operational Command, and the Air Defense Operational Command (500). Once the APEC forum concludes, the military will continue supporting the National Police in the districts under emergency.
This international event, hosted by our country for the third time (2008, 2016, and 2024), will bring together world leaders from 21 Asia-Pacific countries from November 10 to 16. During its course, over 160 events are planned, which will contribute to post-pandemic economic recovery and stimulate development opportunities for various economic sectors.
The ceremony was also attended by the Commanding Generals of the Navy, Admiral Luis Polar Figari; the Air Force, Air General Carlos Enrique Chávez Cateriano; and the Army, Army General César Briceño Valdivia.
