They would have had to attack on more than one front to have had any success at all IMHO, attacking only the southern coast would have been suicidal.

If they'd had the ability to attack in June when everything was confused and disorganised then they might have succeeded. But by September when they'd put together their landing craft etc. there wasn't a brown paper dogs chance of chasing an asbestos cat through hell...
