Slovak Jozef Gabčík, who together with Czech Jan Kubiš, assassinated Reinhard Heydrich, the third most influential man of the Third Reich, during the Operation Anthropoid, was born on April 8, 1912, in Poluvsie (Rajecké Teplice).

The significance of the operation was enormous. But for the Czechoslovak resistance, it meant a fierce and bloody retaliation from the nazis.

80 years ago fcukin Nazi Heydrich was gunned down by Slovak Jozef Gabčik and Czech Jan Kubiš in a daring operation. Heydrich died of his wounds a few days later from his wounds infecting.

Anthropoid... I always thought this was the most aptly named operation of the war. The target looked like a human being, possibly sounded like one from a distance, and could have passed for one for a short period, but the similarities definitely stopped there.

He was wounded by grenade fragments and horse hair padding from the seat he was sitting on causing peritonitis hope it was painful.

And he died while supervised by Himmler's personal doctor who declined to use new anti-bacteria drugs. This could very well be the one and only case a SS "doctor" actually contributed anything to society.
