Slovak Jozef Gabčík, who together with Czech Jan Kubiš, assassinated Reinhard Heydrich, the third most influential man of the Third Reich, during the Operation Anthropoid, was born on April 8, 1912, in Poluvsie (Rajecké Teplice).

The significance of the operation was enormous. But for the Czechoslovak resistance, it meant a fierce and bloody retaliation from the nazis.

Anthropoid... I always thought this was the most aptly named operation of the war. The target looked like a human being, possibly sounded like one from a distance, and could have passed for one for a short period, but the similarities definitely stopped there.
