The USS Halsey Powell (DD-686), showing her down by the stern with smoke pouring from the spot were a Japanese Kamikaze plane crashed into her.

Halsey Powell (DD-686) has just cleared the carrier USS Hancock (CV-19) and is noticeably down by the stern, though the fires have largely been extinguished by progressive flooding. Halsey Powell had been refuelling alongside Hancock, on 20 March, when a single Kamikaze struck. Aiming for the carrier, the pilot missed long and, passing over the edge of Hancock's flight deck, hit the destroyer just aft mount 55, causing a huge plume of smoke and water.
