BRP Quezon (PS70) patrol ship former US Navy Auk class minesweeper and BRP Pangasinan (PS31) patrol ship former USN PCE-842-class patrol craft escort was finally decommissioned yesterday. BRP Quezon was commissioned on Aug. 19, 1967 while BRP Pangasinan, on July 1948.

The VPN (Vietnam People’s Navy) has the largest submarine force in ASEAN with 6 Kilo class submarines. The Russian made Kilo submarine has earned the “black hole” nickname from the US Navy since its so difficult to detect; It is known to sneak undetected next to aircraft carriers. The Kilo is a diesel-electric powered submarine and as such, it is known as an “SSK”, a US Navy designation for diesel subs where “SS” means submarine and the “K” means that is a hunter-killer.
