Today in 1982, HMS GLAMORGAN returns home to Portsmouth and a hero’s welcome.

As she enters the approaches to the Portsmouth Harbour, she is met by the harbour tugs and small boats with well wishers on to bring her home. Along the old city walls that line the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, thousands of people line the wall to cheer and wave flags as she sails past.

As they always do in times of war or conflict, the people of Portsmouth and the south coast always make sure “their ships” are welcomed home properly. Although not really seen by the crowds and tv crews due to being on the starboard side as she enters, GLAMORGAN is displaying her battles scars on her port side for all to see.

As she slips into the Naval Base, she is greeted by the crew of the USS CHARLES ADAMS who are all lining the side and salute her.

After being pushed alongside, her crew disembark for some well deserved leave. She will then head to drydock for a huge repair and refit job.
