Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad visiting KAI facilities in South Korea. With the air force is looking for more than 60 aircraft to fill both the light attack role and LIFT/AJT, it presents opportunity to manufacturers worldwide (including KAI, Leonardo and even aircraft manufacturers from Russia, China and Pakistan) to score some pretty fat contracts from the government

Recently the defence ministry announced that the helicopter will be put to storage and the air force will look for helicopters to lease as stopgap measure until enough money can be allocated for additional batch of H225M/EC725.

While there is still no news about which type of helicopter the air force is looking to lease, the Airbus H225 (essentially a civilian version of the EC725 that the air force is currently operating) seems to be a favorite as it shares parts with the EC725 and greatly simplifies things for thr air force, unlike getting a completely different helicopter.

This also means that the Army aviation corps will also need to look its Nuri replacement (since the army aviation corps still needs the air force to maintain its Nuri fleet). They may look at different helicopter to fill its need due to differing requirement from the air force (including the ability to undersling a 105mm howitzer, bigger side door for easy troop disembarking and possibly a rear ramp)

While the regular grunts already transitioned to Steyr AUG in the 90s and then Colt M4A1 in late 2000s/early 2010, the TA/AW folks continue to use the venerable M16A1

This is also coincide with french effort to sell its Mistral LHD to Malaysia after international (read: US and A) pressure on france to drop the sale of the already completed Mistral LHD to Russia.

Despite the decision not to acquire the LHD, Malaysia keeps its amphibious training with foreign partner since it plans to form an amphibious infantry unit of its own; a marine corps. Malaysia also keen on getting its own amphibious ships, although there is still no news on whether they will go for LPD or the much more ambitious (and expensive) LHD ship design.

Navy's new-ish digital camo. Note the 8-point caps or utility covers which is a signature USN/USMC product despite RMN drawing little/non-existent tradition from them.

Say what you want about camouflage uniform being issued to the navy (or even the air force) but it would be much better than having to go through muds and sand on these

I red some of the book written by one of the Armored Division driver, the book called "Mechanized in Somalia".. how Malaysian soldier being respected by the civilian and warlords (allies and foes) for their bravery and courageous... is a fact without the the help of Malaysian soldier the Black Hawk down survivor chances is slim.. but sadly much of the news about it is not mentioned.

The most notable mention was by Mark Bowden in his book "Black Hawk Down". Unfortunately our guys were not featured in the film.

RMAF Hawk 208 light fighter with AGM-84 Harpoon ASM.

Such capability is unheard of for Hawk 2xx aircraft. While Hawk is also used for maritime patrol, the ability to carry and launch Harpoon gives it a significant firepower upgrade compared to the smaller, shorter ranged AGM-65 Mavericks which it could also carry and used for anti ship purpose
