Honestly, I sometimes wonder for whose benefit these design features get included? Why do companies give their combat vehicles e.g. headlights that look like they're borrowed from a concept car or movie prop? Do they do this to entice generals into buying their stuff? Is it done to impress the members of parliament who have to grant the funding?
Some utter madlad from Franco-German Brigade's 550th Armoured Engineer Company ran a marathon in Freiburg, Germany today. In full EOD gear. In 30°C (86°F) weather. Took him 04:27:32 hours.
Quite an awesome thing to do, the German Air Force is deploying Tornado Recce aircraft right now to help search for a missing kid in Lower Saxony. The 6-year-old has autism, will try to hide when seeing strangers and won't reply if his name is called out, so they're bringing in all kinds of tech to aid the many hundreds looking for the poor child.
Sadly, the chances of finding him alive are slim. He would have already spent a night in freezing conditions outside. But it's good to know that society still cares enough about a life to mount a multi-million Euro operation like this.
Apparently some private property security camera footage suggests the boy could still be alive, by the way. They've now brought in a company of paratroopers with night vision goggles to basically employ ambush tactics, the rationale being that due to his condition the little one would try to hide from people actively looking for him. They call this the "silent approach". They fear all the noise and ruckus created by the search so far actually had a detrimental effect and scared him off.

Panavia Tornado ECR of JaboG 32 with an AIM-9 Sidewinder, jamming pod, and an AGM-88 HARM heads back towards its patrol area after aerial refueling during NATO Operation Allied Force. 28 April 1999
The website of the veterans association of JaboG 32 mentions 236 strikes on Yugoslavian air defence assets. Looks like the Yugoslavians quickly realised they could drastically lower the accuracy of AGM-88B by switching off their radars in time, though.
