The Germans introduced the FN in the late 50's as the G1 and remained in service until the early 60's and was replaced by a Spanish CETME which was redesigned and became the G3.
"West Germany ordered 100,000 additional FALs, designated the G1, for the army. FN made the rifles between April 1957 and May 1958. My Grandfather was a paratrooper during the 60s. The one thing he always talks about is that the americans always lost the drinking games after the maneuvers.
