Etelä20 main exercise in Uusimaa ended yesterday. Some 1000 personnel and 250 vehicles took part.

On flag day, some 32 hornets were in the air, flying over major cities (and that is the reason for that picture with large number of planes on the highway.)

As a curious, and kind of ridiculous side story: some Russian sites now claim that these were instead a sort of provocation, simulated attacks against Russian bases...

I'm saying this mostly for our Russian members; if you follow these kind of sites, to me they don't appear to be a very good news sources. They quote a post from the Air Force which clearly states "the aim was to show that the air force can be quickly deployed to all parts of the country" in honor of the flag day. And they still claim that the Air Force itself stated that they were "bombing Russian bases".

Or are these Russian versions of the onion?

These flights were a replacement for the yearly parade that was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Definitely not an "onion" or "mad". That being said, I have not heard of these sites before. Look like fake news sites to me that the more established media outlets can reference if they chose to run a story so to speak.

Army receives Sisu GTP 4x4 test vehicles

They will also test the troop transport variant.

This is now the third domestic contender for that role.

First they tested Protolab Misu PMPV 6x6, then Patria 6x6 and now Sisu GTP.

The interesting thing is that at the same time defense forces are developing the Patria 6x6 in cooperation with Estonia and Latvia. Maybe they are thinking of two models, cheap one for the masses and another one for the readiness/peacekeeping units?

Readiness unit of Jaeger Brigade completed a long range patrol march between 26.6-1.7.2020 to honor the memory of victims of partisan attack on Seitajärvi village and the separate detachment Savukoski that pursued the partisans. The route followed the 150km long route and battle grounds that Separate Detachment Savukoski took when pursuing the partisans. March ends with the old tradition of Jaeger units, border baptism. Separate Detachment Savukoski was a unit that specialized on pursuing partisans after similar attacks. During continuation war, 200 civilians were killed in partisan attacks to the border villages. Worst time was summer of 1944.

1st day Readiness unit laid a wreath on memorial for victims of Seitajärvi partisan attack.

Maintenance and taking care of feet is important on long marches

Readiness in location where partisans had a base. When partisans continued they separated into four groups to evade the pursuers and then met again in Ahmatunturi hill. In same manner the readiness unit separated into four groups on different routes.

Last day started by crossing flooding Värriöjoki river.

Before starting the final speed march, a wreath was laid on the spot where captured Valtteri Ollila (16), Eliisi Ollila (17) and private Niiranen were murdered.

winners of the speed march.

Readiness unit on top of Kuskoiva hill, ready to accept border baptism. Soldiers of readiness unit set a stone they have carried to the hill on the same pile with others who have received the border baptism. The border baptism is a tradition dating back to 1918 when Jaeger Brigade 1 (JP1) was in Terijoki (modern day Zelenogorsk).
