Paratroopers’ parachute jump training requires a lot from the trainees. Apart from completing safe and secure descents, this physically and mentally demanding training phase also involves making the soldiers increasingly fit and strengthening the troops’ team spirit....

Leave no man behind

During the jump training period, one of the key lessons learned had to do with the importance of team spirit, the motto being ”Leave no man behind”. For instance, when running in formation, we never left the physically weakest mate behind. Rather, we would carry his rucksack and help him out by, for example, pushing him forward. At the very start, it was actually difficult to stay put to give a mate a hand, but as time went by, we learned that, regardless of the circumstances, we never leave a mate behind.

The Kvarn 19 Exercise to be led by the Guard Jaeger Regiment will be carried out in Sweden from 12 to 20 October 2019. Around 200 persons, including conscripts and regular personnel will participate in the exercise. The main objective of the exercise is to improve the readiness and capability of the Guard Jaeger Regiment’s readiness unit and urban jaegers for conducting demanding combat operations in built-up areas.

On October 25 at 6.45 local time, the ferry with the last batch of Leopard 2A6NL tanks ordered in 2014 entered the port of Vuosaari in Helsinki. The vehicles came from the surplus of the Royal Land Forces of the Netherlands (Koninklijke Landmacht). 2A6NL Leopards will remain in the service of Finland's land forces until 2035.

The tanks were delivered in accordance with the contract signed on January 16, 2014. Finns bought 100 Leopards 2A6NL at that time.
As part of the contract, tanks were renovated, and ammunition, spare parts and training equipment, interior and driving simulators, tool kits and diagnostic devices were delivered.
The vehicles sold to Finland were modernized by the Dutch in 2000-2006
Deliveries were on schedule. The first batch of 20 tanks arrived in Finland in May 2015. In 2016, training began for crews of tank companies (Panssarivaunukomppania) from the Mechanized Brigade (Panssariprikaati), stationed in Parolannummi.
Then the training began with soldiers from the Karelia Brigade (Karjalan Prikaati) from Kouvola, which also has a tank company. Trained crews took part in the international Arrow and Northern Wind exercises.
At the same time, cooperation between mechanized units, also equipped with older Leopards 2A4 (bought in 2003 from surplus of the Bundeswehr), was developed. The latter will be gradually replaced by 2A6NL. Some were rebuilt into Leopard 2L Leguan bridge tanks and Leopard 2R technical security vehicles. In 2009, another 15 tanks for spare parts were bought.

In addition, Jäger brigade also has a tank platoon in readiness consisting of A4's, whose crew is trained in Parola.

I know that feeling. After an hour of such weather with freezing rain (OK, maybe in -20 not -30ºC), a man feels like in armour - clothes bend only at the elbows and knees.
Snow is then like sandpaper, it destroys shoes and gloves.
