January 8, 2017, a Sukhoi Su 33 (L) and a Mikoyan MiG 29K (R) on Russia's Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Syria. A Russian task force consisting of Northern Fleet and Black Sea Fleet warships and more than 40 aircraft were involved in an anti-terrorist combat mission in Syria in the autumn and winter of the year 2016. Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov She was launched in 1982, and was in service from 1987 to 1991 in the Soviet Navy as Baku, and from 1991 to 1996 in the Russian Navy as Admiral Gorshkov. In 2004, she was sold to India and converted into a STOBAR carrier now named INS Vikramaditya.

HNLMS Karel Doorman in Hollandia, New Guinea. Due to a lack of tugs in the area, the crew used the propeller thrust of aircraft chained to the deck to nudge the carrier into the docks without tug support.

RAN also used this method to get alongside with HMAS Melbourne. Saw it in action in 1975 in Sydney, chained her S-2G Trackers to the deck and pushed her into the wharf as the damn dockies were on strike (again!)

HMS Triumph (A-108) floodlit in Rio de Janeiro Feb, 1972

Triumph was converted, between 1956 and 1965, into a heavy repair ship, emerging from the work with the pennant number "A108". Triumph was based in Singapore after her conversion, being involved in a major exercise in 1968 in the Far East, with numerous capital ships from the United Kingdom and other nations taking part, as well as dozens of destroyers and frigates. Triumph was used as a heavy repair and transport ship for troops. In 1975 she was placed in reserve[8] at Chatham Dockyard where she was used as a backdrop for the annual Navy Days, and in 1981 she was struck and subsequently scrapped in Spain.
