Highly trained by U.S green berets, and worked alongside U.S/U.K special forces. They made about 5-7% of the total Afghan security forces (national Army/National Police/Police special forces/Intelligence NDS officers and commandos/KPF) But yet conducted over 80% of the fighting in the last 20 years. Some of the best fighters, most of which died as martyrs with their boots on. During the Taliban 2021 offensive many ANA surrendered/made deals for amnesty, but not these guys. They fought non-stop for weeks until the last bullet and last drop of blood, many also died in their outposts that summer due to shortage of food after multiple days of repeat fighting. Today many of them are still with resistance groups when most national army/police fled.

This picture was taken by photojournalist Franco Pagetti. Apparently the backstory was that an American soldier gifted this mask to an ANA soldier during Halloween, and jokingly mentioned that if the soldier wears the mask in battle, it’ll protect him.
