Lt. Cmdr. Rob Nelson, left, a shooter assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), gives the signal to launch a T-45C Goshawk aircraft from GHWB’s flight deck. The aircraft is assigned to Training Air Wing (TW) 1. Chief of Naval Air Training is conducting a carrier qualification detachment aboard GHWB. The detachment is the first opportunity for student naval aviators from Training Air Wings 1 and 2 to launch from and land on an aircraft carrier at sea, a mission-critical phase in undergraduate strike and E2/C2 pilot training. GHWB provides the national command authority flexible, tailorable war fighting capability through the carrier strike group that maintains maritime stability and security in order to ensure access, deter aggression and defend U.S., allied and partner interests. The USS Connecticut arrives at its base in Bremerton, in the state of Washington, where it will undergo intensive repairs. The Seawolf-class submarine USS Connecticut (SSN 22) collided with an "object" on October 2nd while diving in the South China Sea. The first images obtained upon her arrival in San Diego - where she landed to avoid a storm before heading north of the American west coast - showed considerable damage to the bow. The Sub Commander, Second, and Senior NCO have been relieved. The Seawolf class, of which only three units were built due to its very high cost, is one of the most advanced submarine developments in service, very quiet and fast and capable of carrying up to 50 torpedoes or missiles.
