Course Description​

---

Purpose:
Educate Snipers to be adaptive Soldiers, critical & creative thinkers, armed with the technical, tactical, and logistical skills necessary to serve successfully at the Sniper Team level. Prepare Snipers with a principal understanding of team duties and responsibilities

Course Scope:
The Basic Sniper Course trains selected individuals assigned to sniper positions in the skills necessary to deliver long range precision fire and the collection of battlefield information. Soldiers will receive training in fieldcraft skills; advanced camouflage techniques, concealed movement, target detection, range estimation, and terrain utilization (Macro and Micro), intelligence preparation of the battlefield (IPB), relevant reporting procedures, sniper tactics, advanced marksmanship; known and unknown distance firing, at stationary and moving targets during daylight and limited visibility in varying weather conditions, and staff subjects (intelligence, mission, training, combat orders, command and control, and training management) to ensure mission accomplishment without compromise in accordance with the supported unit Commanders intent in all operational venues.

Prerequisites:
Soldiers must be on Active duty or in the Reserve / National Guard Components.
Must possess MOS 11B, 19D or 18 series in the rank of E3 through E6.
ASI B4 will only be awarded to Soldiers possessing MOS 11B
Must have a good performance record with no history of alcohol or drug abuse.
Must be a volunteer and have a signed letter of recommendation from their Company Commander.
Must at a minimum possess a physical profile of 111221.
Must have a current (within the last 12 months) physical examination that reflects:

• 20/20 correctable vision
• Color discrimination of red/green annotated on physical exam.

Must meet height and weight standards of AR 600-9 "The Army Weight Control Program" at the time of in-processing.
Must pass psychological evaluation (MMPI/CPI) conducted under the direction of a qualified Psychologist with in one year of assigned class date.
Must have a GT score of 100 or higher.
Must qualify expert with the M4 Rifle within six (6) months of course attendance UPDATED

Course Outcomes:

• Observable familiarity with all Sniper Weapons Systems characteristics, components and functions.
• Observable Advanced Marksmanship Skills.
• Demonstrate a Higher Understanding of Commander's Information Needs during the Mission Planning Phase for Decisive Action operations.
• Planning and Executing without Compromise. Observable Advanced Sniper Field Craft. Mission Context Problem Solving

[From the ready room screen on the Carl Vinson, screen grab] I’ve seen the longer video of the aircraft’s approach and it appears to be a hook slap or ramp strike. It is hard to tell, but appears the pilot is low, powering up [F35 slow to spool up], possibly waved off, and the gear and or hook hit the round down. Terrible tragedy. Aviator and sailors lucky.

Soldiers with the 4th Infantry Division trained with the Mobile Low, Vehicle Integrated Defense System (M-LIDS) vehicle-mounted counter-drone system in Kuwait last month as part of the multi-national anti-ISIS formation Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria.
The Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle-mounted system uses a combination of sensors to detect aerial threats before disabling them, either through electronic jamming or destroying them with a 30mm cannon or the Coyote small drone.
