I may be wrong, but I believe there are tributaries from the Yangtse flowing all over south east Asia.

I´m no expert so I could be wrong also, but the Yang Tse being what it is, it rather collects water into its huge basin than flow out.

I know there were countries like Burma and Thailand who have protested the construction of the dam because of that reason. But if someone more knowledgeable can chime in, that'd be great.

You might be talking bout the Mekong, and they are protesting, but those same countries are choking it.

Interesting point about the farmland and crops. One can only quess how much they have got any strategic food reserves left for emergency/disaster situations after covid-19.

Might prove disasterous in the long run, especially in a case when the farmlands are saturated with nasty chemicals swept away by the flooding from some heavy industries and such and adding also the damage to road&rail infrastructure (electricity and fresh water in the cities as well).

And the cleanup might be a nightmare.

It shows how 3GD has failed at flood control. If the flood gates don't open, the areas upstream will severely flood or the dam collapses. If the flood gates open, it takes the pressure off the dam and areas upstream, but floods severely areas downstream. I think at this point, CCP is just trying to save Wuhan.
