TBM Avengers, AG 83, 1945
Commander David McCampbell, AG 15, became the Navy's first ACE on Oct 24, 1944, in his aircraft, "Minsi II", flying from ESSEX. He had 9 shoot downs and two probable's that day alone, for a total at that point of 30 individual kills.

Just goes to show how tough Aussie sailors are, when ever the steam catapult broke down we would get six "Green shirts" - three each side and launch by hand. It was a bit harder when they landed so we used eight with a fishing net...lol

"U.S.S. Hancock services 'One-Two Punch.' Hit and set aflame by a bomb and the crash of the Japanese plane which loosed the bomb, the Navy carrier U.S.S. Hancock was stunned and shaken—but resumed limited operations within 4 hours. Shrouded in flags, the bodies of men killed in the double-blow lie on the hangar deck amidships as shipmates pay their last respects before sea burial." 29 dead and 34 missing—total 63—and 82 wounded."

Hey guys, sorry that I was absent but my hard drive crashed so I have to reboot and install all over my PC programs. But nothing to wooried about it. here we go with another set of French Air Carriers, The Clemenceau.
Clemenceau often affectionately called le Clem, was the French Navy's sixth aircraft carrier and the lead ship of her class. The carrier served from 1961 to 1997, and was dismantled and recycled in 2009. The carrier was the second French warship to be named after Georges Clemenceau, the first being a Richelieu-class battleship laid down in 1939 but never finished.
Clemenceau and her sister ship Foch served as the mainstays of the French fleet. During the carrier's career, Clemenceau sailed more than 1,000,000 nautical miles (1,900,000 km; 1,200,000 mi) during 3,125 days at sea. She was equipped to handle nuclear munitions to be delivered by her air complement, and was later modified to fire nuclear-capable missiles. She took part in numerous exercises and cruises, seeing action during the Lebanese Civil War, Gulf War and in air operations over the former Yugoslavia.
