Other Post So, how was your day?

Well today was NOT a good day.

I qualified as an urban railcar driver just over a month ago after 6 months training.

This morning as I was coming into a train station a young man decided I was his ticket to nirvana and threw himself off the platform in front of my driving cab.

He's now an ex human being and I'm on compulsory leave until I am medically and mentally cleared to return to work.

I've had dozens of critical incidents during my almost 37 years of policing but I have never been involved in actively taking a life, until today. I know and understand that I'm not responsible in any way but I AM angry that the selfish prick used me as a way to take himself out.

I'll be fine but I'm not looking forward to the process I will have to go through to get to the other side in a wholesome piece. I've been here before , I can do it but I hate being placed in a position of having to go through it again at my age (68)

Peace, out
BZ
Well S**t, i feel you... one time the cabin crew didnt give me the coffee the way I wanted it, almost quit and had to go to industrial leave. Practically a hero for staying.

Seriously, i couldnt imagine what you are going through, sucks that it had to be on your train. You'll pull through and hope you get back in that train. Hope you start feeling better sooner than later. FYI, dont be a train driver in Japan.

I feel your pain, Friend. Trains of any kind simply do not stop like the family sedan which is something people can't understand. I ran trains for decades and know about such things.

BravoZulu,
Sorry you were the one that just happened to be on shift when that poor soul decided to leave this earth. I would recommend you look at this incident as fate as things aligned for him to help ease his ending because you have the mental capacity to handle the repercussions a lot of people don't have the capacity. Work thru it, pray about it & realize that a higher power put you there in that exact moment & come out the other side stronger & better.

The guy didnt pick you, he picked your train. whatever he was going through is over. Hopefully sleep on it, process it, talk to family and friends, and move on. it may not be explainable or understandable to you or us.

Damn @BravoZulu, that is heavy. You're not in wrong to feel angry at him for involving you in his solution. People in that state are in such pain that they can't really consider what their choice does to others.

I wish you strength for your recovery.

Participated in confirmation party for one of my brothers kid.

Had to select a brick in the wall and stare at it through the songs, to not burst out laughing and cause them a childhood trauma.

@BravoZulu sorry to hear that mate, I'm sure you're all over it, not your fault, entirely his, hoping you can quickly come to grips with it and not bear it as too heavy a weight to carry with you moving forward.

Friday eve and pretty much whole Saturday we spent, along my mothers family celebrating my cousins 50th birthday. I did make the crack that reaching “half century” maybe was a bit tough, overall a great time. He’s many childhood buddies most of whom I didn’t know, but some moderate booze is, as per the saying the social lubricant it is we pretty much all had a great time. Bit sleepless now, not in Seattle but kinda sleepless.

Nothing like waking up at 7am to get an anti tetanus and anti rabies shot for my morning.

Care of this beast, as you can see with no regrets

I remember reading in a comics way back then: if every world leaders/generals was petting a kitty on his knee, I’d sleep in peace every night. Fact.

Can anyone explain to me why that couple who got busted cheating on their significant others during that concert is so goddamn important they've been making the headlines for three days in a row? F***.

Because we have nothing else to talk about… also see the Funny Photos / Memes thread for a plethora of related images about it.

Seriously though I don’t give a toss about it, only heard the guy caught was an utter douche, but who becomes a CEO without being a douche.

Until it starts scratching you. This one lives most of its life on the streets, she is sweet but not into long term cuddles and pets. Ive never seen a more disciplined cat though and actually listens. My GF loves her as when we were play fighting it cam to her rescue lol

Here is a more serious topic to discuss, anti NATO movement is gaining serious traction in Finland.

My cabin neighbor walked in today to chat. He had to get signatures from all of his neighbors so that he could build a hut in a forest, on his own land. I signed of course. Just got me thinking, why such a silly process, it's his land! Sometimes I feel this country is designed for that annoying neighbor that complains and torpedoes everything.

Must admire the people living and working in the tropics.

It has now been 30 degrees here for a while, and simply mowing the lawn gets me sweating like a pig. 😅

Crazy uh? Usually construction workers around here are of North African ancestry. Some eastern Euros also sprinkled among them and they work their ass off even when it’s near 40c. Their boss is under the obligation to provide water; even then. I’d faint well before midday under those conditions… but when you were born and raised in hot climates you already are used to it. Normally they adjust the work hours for those outdoor in these heatwaves. Start by 7am, end a bit after 1pm…

Its official, final approval was granted for my Irish Contributory Pension Application, I was 66 last August 2024,
took nearly 6 months for some suit to sign off on it and being resident in Romania I miss out on the free bus and rail travel
in Ireland, ditto for winter heating allowance for gas, wood, coal etc..
Thankfully not claiming for any sick kids or dependent spouse, oh yeah not a mention on their official web page that citizens outside Ireland, UK, EU, Worldwide get the weekly pension every 4 weeks!!
