Other Post So, how was your day?

hahahahaha, when I see people complaining of heat and humidity :D

I'm not, it's still raining. Apparently it will rain daily, until 30.6.

Maybe in this climate change we end up with yearly rainy season. šŸ˜…

I intended to plant potatoes, but at this rate it's too soft for the tractor.

I was devastated to hear today that Mikayla Raines from Save A Fox ("Finnegan Fox") has ended her own life. Apparently, a bunch of furry lowlives drove her to suicide with allegations of animal cruelty.

Well, it's all a matter of perspective and to what one is accustomed, ain't it. Could you handle a -33°C winter? šŸ˜‰

Dont promise me a good time, Finland is one of those places that I would dream off. Cold weather, stupid amounts of snow and stabby people who live far away.

Speaking of cold, nobody told me building a house cost more money in furnishings and finishing touchs. The amount of budget for the airconditioning alone :( Should have just bought a boat and travelled to Europe

Europe is sweltering under a significant heat wave now. From today all the way until at least Wednesday, the mercury will reach highs ranging from 47°C in Portugal to still 40°C in Northern Germany. With dew points of 14°C in Portugal to 20°C in Germany.

Yeah. F*** that.

And it's only June. Normally, the last week of July and first week of August are the hottest ones of the year on the continent.

As if on cue, I had the shittiest morning today.

First heat stroke related death of my nascent secondary career as a paramedic. 61-year-old retired locomotive driver, and to make matters worse, with a 10-year-old son. Dude just dropped like a felled tree while doing gardening work. When we arrived, the wife and a neighbour had tried to resuscitate him for like twenty minutes. The emergency physician continued to administer CPR in the back of our ambulance en route to the hospital, but after 45 minutes, he called it quits and pronounced the guy dead.

I'm glad that as a volunteer, I'm doing only 8-hour-shifts instead of the 24 hours the contractors have to sit through.

@muck Again, that's horriffic.

I had a lumberjack here today to quote what it costs to fell one 100+ years old spruce from my back yard. I could try it myself, but there is power lines, house and grill on the way, leaving a very small sector to fell it. Good thing is that I will have firewood for year or two.

My sense of humor too.

30 here today, but it’s breaking this evening. Cooler weather coming your way, slowly.

Here's a free test for y'all to test how German you secretly are.
Ever used any of the following sentences (or variations thereof) in your life?

• We've always done it like that.
• Have a good day's work! (as a way of saying goodbye)
• A farmer won't eat what he doesn't know. (turning down an unfamiliar dish)
• Work comes before leisure.
• You can rip a fart on that! (I wholeheartedly agree)
• The early bird catches the worm.
• Sounds strange, and yet it's true.
• Things can always become worse.
• He who breaks, loses the race.
• Don't try to confuse me with facts.

If you've used at least 5 of these, you may be secretly German. It's almost a certainty if you've used more than 7. And if you love terrible short puns like "irrelephant", odds are you're so German the Nazis would've been impressed.

I occasionally use one of the 10 examples... looks like I don't make the team! ;) No German blood that I know of, but Dad's parents were Dutch.

Not sure if it’s complimentary, but physically and abroad I’ve been mistaken for a German, not that I travel with my copy of Mein Kampf to read openly on a bench in Amsterdam or Ibiza, but physically at least there might be something.

Hair is light brown, eyes green in the sun and I’m usually pale as snow unless it’s the summer. Bullshit physics aside I have also this straight face in all circumstances although I’m generally relatively good and engaging.

In Finnish we have most of these. Except the ones about farmers or fart.

But we have ones like:
"I rather eat this than be punched in the face." as a compliment for food or
"Frost will surely drive the piglet back home."

"I rather eat this than be punched in the face." as a compliment for food or
Oh. my. God.
That's so typically German.

What does the German say when he eats something delicious?

"It's edible."

What does the German say when he sees a beautiful building?

"Imagine having to pay the electricity bill for that."

What does the German say when he gives you a present?

"If you don't like it, I've kept the receipt."

What does the German say when someone has hurt themselves?

"A true apache doesn't know pain!"

Come to think of it … we are sarcastic little shits.

When a redneck wants you to know he's being honest...
"I wouldn't S**t you - you're my favorite turd!"

We have those too, except the last two maybe.

"Imagine having to clean all the rooms." "Must be cold in winter." When visiting Versailles.

My father is an expert at this. For food he might complain that it's "too good." "Too much taste."

"Life is not like dancing on the roses." When seeing happy people on TV.

Maybe it's protestantism?

Just back from a week up in Bucharest doing some renovation and painting on my step sons apartment as he wants to sell and buy closer to home in the west, +38 heat compounded by the accommodation blocks, high rise office blocks also there are 1,722,865 residents and 1,256,122 automobiles in use daily makes the place feel like a microwave. 8 hours train journey home thankfully the trains air conditioning was working, half filled carriage and the toilets were clean, got home at 21:30 hrs, threw the bags inside and headed off to walk the dog, next will be shower, food, and bed.
Some snaps from the trip.

Well today was NOT a good day.

I qualified as an urban railcar driver just over a month ago after 6 months training.

This morning as I was coming into a train station a young man decided I was his ticket to nirvana and threw himself off the platform in front of my driving cab.

He's now an ex human being and I'm on compulsory leave until I am medically and mentally cleared to return to work.

I've had dozens of critical incidents during my almost 37 years of policing but I have never been involved in actively taking a life, until today. I know and understand that I'm not responsible in any way but I AM angry that the selfish prick used me as a way to take himself out.

I'll be fine but I'm not looking forward to the process I will have to go through to get to the other side in a wholesome piece. I've been here before , I can do it but I hate being placed in a position of having to go through it again at my age (68)

Peace, out
BZ

I’m really sorry to hear this BravoZulu and the troubles that comes with it. No, you’re not responsible in any way.

Only thing I’ll slightly differ here is the poor bloke that decided to end his life wasn’t a ā€œselfish prickā€ but a troubled soul with grave issues. I understand your anger, however.

Best.
