The saturation is essential for Taiwanese to defense their small island against China which currently has the World's second biggest naval force by the numbers of operational vessels and keep growing. So they train themselves to utilize each ground weapon systems such as howitzers, tanks and MRLs to counter threats that will come from sea. In addition of that they have high numbers of locally made anti-ship and supersonic cruise missiles such as Hsiung Feng II / III. In addition of these ground and naval based missiles they are even modified their trainer jets such as AT-3 to carry ASMs in addition to FCK-1, F-16, Dassault Mirage 2000 and F-5Es . So they currenty have over 300+ jets to carry ASMs that can engage naval targets up to 250 km range in addition to other defense systems.

A unit of “Clouded Leopard” armoured vehicles have taken to Taiwan's roads instead of using trains, in order to make training more realistic, reports said Wednesday (July 14).

The 333rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, based in Pingtung County, would have shipped its vehicles by train or truck in the past to avoid creating traffic problems or disputes with civilian road users, CNA reported.

However, due to increasing threats from China, the military thought it wiser to test in a more realistic situation. After technical checks, the Taiwan-made vehicles hit the road Wednesday morning to reach their destinations by a variety of routes.

Having tanks and armoured vehicles move over streets and roads increases the familiarity of soldiers with possible war theatres and improves their ability to respond to real-life situations, the military said.
