NRP Azevia (1941/1976).
The NRP AZEVIA class was a model of inspection boats at the service of the Portuguese Navy, between 1941 and 1976, being later classified as patrols, and were built in Portugal, at Arsenal do Alfeite, in the middle of World War II, having been until then the only ones designed to monitor fisheries off the coast of mainland Portugal.

Frigate Almirante Gago Coutinho pre-1975
Based on the USS Dealey DEs , these class of 3 ships built in Portugal (Viana do castelo and Lisnave shipyards) can be considered a failure due to many construction problems which lead to her early retirement in the early 80s. Since they were built with NATO financial assistance they could not operate in the african territories so they were mostly used in Stanavforlant until their decomission.

The former oceanographic ship/ then accomodation vessel Afonso de Albuquerque is tugged down the tagus river into sea, where she would be sunk in a naval exercise

A sad end for a ship bearing the name of one of the greatest figures of portuguese history :(

Another ill-fated project, the Pero Escobar frigate, sole of her type (1957-1975)

I completely agree, but remember that historical awareness has been lacking in our institutions and countries for many years, there will always be some excuse not to turn them into museums or leave them in a theme park, a very sad ending for some emblematic ships and equipment.

An ill-fated name unfortunately, the previous Afonso de Albuquerque was runned ashore by her crew in 1961, during the invasion of Goa.

They named one the M frigates Dom Francisco de Almeida who was the 1st vice-roy of India, but left Albuquerque (who was the 2nd vice-roy) out .

Maybe on some future ship, god knows when :(

Yes but they only have one historical ship. The submarine never gets completed so I would also say that another modern warship would have been nice as a museum.

Fragata D. Fernando II e Glória in the Arsenal do Alfeite (Lisbon, other shore side) well worth a visit the ship is very nice, seaworthy and completely fitted with guns and all. The submarine lies in the dock besides it. But I'm waiting for years for it becoming ready.

Its also pretty interesting as its a very old submarine.
