22 Tactical Air Base has a knight in its sign, and its headquarters is in the city with the largest bricked medieval castle in the world.

On 08 June 2018, 100 days of operation of the Polish Military Contingent were carried out as part of the EU NAVFOR MED operation.
The above period was very intense both for the Air Crews carrying out tasks as part of the SOPHIA operation on the Mediterranean Sea and for all other soldiers who were responsible for creating the contingent base and securing its activities. During the implementation of tasks for the operation, the Polish crew of the Bryza (M-28 B1R) aircraft performed over 30 reconnaissance missions and reached a total raid of nearly 200 hours.
The Polish Military Contingent was active as part of the EU NAVFOR MED (European Naval Force Mediterranean) military operation. It is an EU maritime operation whose task is to counteract the illegal flow of migrants to Europe and combat human trafficking. As part of the SOPHIA operation, tasks such as: training of the Libyan coast guard and navy are also carried out. In addition, the presence of European Union forces in the Mediterranean allows for the enforcement of the embargo that was imposed on the delivery of weapons to Libya by the UN Security Council.
It is also worth paying attention to the colors of the M-28 Bryza aircraft number 1017 - it is painted according to the scheme of British Wellington bombers on which Polish pilots flown during the Battle of the Atlantic.
