INS Ranvir (D54), a variant of Soviet Kashin-class destroyers exported to India. Rajput-class destroyers were built in late 70's and early 80's at 61 Kommunara Shipbuilding Plant, in Mykolaiv, Ukrainian SSR.

In the 2000's the SSM P-15 Termit (NATO Code SS-N-2D Styx) was replaced by BrahMos, a SSM jointly developed by India and Russia. New sensors and combat data systems were also installed. In some ships, the rear twin-arm launcher for SAM M-1 Volna (NATO Code SA-N-1 Goa) was replaced by 2 x 8-cell VLS for Israeli Barak SAM or by the locally developed VL-SRSAM. Additionally, in some ships, the AK-726 twin 76 mm gun was replaced by OTO Melara 76 mm single gun and INS Rana was fitted with the locally developed ballistic tactical missile Dhanush.

Rajput-class has five ships:

· INS Rajput (D51) - commissioned in 1980 and decommissioned in 2021
· INS Rana (D52) - commissioned in 1982 and still active
· INS Ranjit (D53) - commissioned in 1983 and decommissioned in 2019
· INS Ranvir (D54) - commissioned in 1986 and still active
· INS Ranvijay (D55) - commissioned in 1987 and still active
