A classic view of six United States Navy battleships firing broadsides during a training exercise. The battleline consists of the battleships West Virginia (BB-48), Colorado (BB-45), Maryland (BB-46), Tennessee (BB-43), California (BB-44) and New Mexico (BB-40). This photo was taken off of California in February of 1927.

The original photo caption identifies this ship as USS Berwyn (ID # 3565), but that vessel did not visit the Gulf area during her World War I era Navy service. Berwyn also differed in many details from the ship seen here (see Photo # NH 64594-A). Photograph from the Bureau of Ships Collection in the U.S. National Archives.
