Sweden, Iceland, Great Britain, Norway, France and Denmark to participate in NATO Forward Land Forces (FLF) operations in Finland
-Finland and Sweden, have been negotiating with several NATO countries for a long time about their participation in Finland's FLF. I am very pleased that this happened and that close allies are participating in the development of the FLF in Finland. This sends a strong message that Europe bears responsibility in NATO and that member states are ready to strengthen the alliance's fearlessness and defense in the northern region, says Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen.
Sweden acts as a framework state for NATO's Forward Land Forces (FLF) in Finland. The framework state has an important responsibility in planning and building the FLF entity in close cooperation with the host state, the participating states and NATO.
-Cooperation with Sweden has gone very well and we are pleased that the participating countries have progressed as planned, says Minister of Defence Häkkänen.
The forward-deployed ground forces are part of NATO's common peacetime tasks. Under normal circumstances, the forces exercise and train together with national forces. The ground forces are part of NATO's operational planning and, as the security situation changes, the force is increased to brigade strength. Reinforcement exercises will be carried out regularly in peacetime.
The FLF presence will be mainly located in the Rovaniemi and Sodankylä areas. The ground forces will begin operations in Finland during 2025.
Islanti, Iso-Britannia, Norja, Ranska ja Tanska osallistuvat Naton eteentyönnettyjen maavoimajoukkojen (Forward Land Forces, FLF) kehittämiseen Suomessa. Puolustusministerit kertoivat asiasta Naton huippukokouksen puolustusministerien työillallisen yhteydessä.
