On her visit to Hungary in 1993, Queen Elizabeth not only met Árpád Göncz and ate a cake at Bugaco, but also visited the Dankó Street homeless shelter of the Oltalom Charitable Association in Budapest, which is run by the Evangelical Brotherhood and led by Methodist pastor Gábor Iványi, according to a Facebook post by Ferenc Kőszeg.
Kőszeg writes that "the British ambassador did not need to explain at length the significance of the Queen's visit to a social institution whose British tradition is known to everyone in the UK".
However, according to Kőszeg's recollection, the Hungarian police were 'horrified' that the British Queen was 'visiting the notorious VIII district, the Dankó Street homeless shelter'. For this reason, Gábor Iványi was 'demanded to compile a list of homeless people staying in the hostel', which Iványi refused to do, and the embassy objected, saying it would be strange if the Queen visited a homeless hostel where there were no homeless people.
The police eventually relented and "Elizabeth II was shown around the shelter by Gábor Iványi Iványi, and the Queen was cheered both by the homeless people in the shelter and by the curious onlookers gathered outside".
Biden might be the stupidest world leader, but during the funeral, the prez of Armenia proved he's the biggest jerk by disrespecting her and Britain at large. Azeris can bomb them back to the stone age now for all I care.
(not posting the pic from respect for HRH - and I did respect her)
