Two French soldiers died when their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Mali on Saturday morning, the French Ministry of Armed Forces announced in a press release.

The soldiers belong to 2nd regiment of hussars of Haguenau: Sergeant Yvonne Huynh and the second is Brigadier Loïc Risser. A third soldier was wounded but his life is not in danger.

The death of the two soldiers now bring to 50, the total number of French soldier who have died since the operation Barkane was launched in August 2014.

On Monday, three other French soldiers were killed when their armoured vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Northern Mali

Al-Qaeda-linked group claimed responsibility for the Monday attack.

"Deep sadness at the announcement of the combat deaths of SGT Yvonne HUYNH and BRI Loïc RISSER as part of Operation Barkhane."

Unfortunately, and it won’t come as a shock to anyone, it’s usually a local farmer that tips the jihadists about when and about where the French will patrol against good money.

I’m the last one to ever disparage our soldiers, French or otherwise but the politicians that put them there in the first place.

These poor souls are convoying in unarmoured VBL's and have been since Op Barkhane started. You would think that after the hard lessons of Afghanistan and Iraq that the fundamentals would have been learned long ago. Instead it's the soldier that pays in blood for the parsimonious attitude of the governments of the day

Rant over ;)

That's a wild picture!! I always wonder when I see these type pics does the excess dust harm the planes these days??

The C in EBRC is for combat it's not only a recce vehicle. It replaces the VAB HOT (anti tank missile vehicle) , the AMX 10RC (recce/anti tank) and the ERC 90 Sagaie (light recce) .The Serval VPB 4x4 will be the light recce vehicle of the army .

Very sad. Shouldn`t be riding around in VBLs anymore. It is a vehicle designed for other purposes than counter insurgency.

This is what a 30kg IED did to a Belgian Dingo in Mali. All 8 occupants survived with 3 having minor injuries..

Why Daesh terrorists in Syria had a lot of FAMAS and Syrian military pro-Assad had some new high-tech FAMAS?
I find in FAMAS wiki
