This book is in a kickstarter projects, fully funded (Ian asked for 33K$ and get +800K$ !!)

It is the English reference on the French army rifle. So if you have any interest you should get one.

Quite a decent rifle it was before being currently replaced here. I’ve had the pleasure to use it during basic in the early 00s. Powerful stuff, and although I’m no weapon expert (meaning I’ve shot it and a hunting rifle Remington « only ») I can tell it was rather easy to use. I likey.

The Chassepot or the FA-MAS? ;)
Jake is old enough for being a regular user of rifle mdle 1798. Chassepot was an improvment for him (/kidding)

I agree with him, Famas was a nice rifle (Low recoil, good precision, interesting options like rifle grenades available, could go left or right handed according the way you rebuilt it). It was just a pain in the ass to clean and rebuild (fcking tiny part infamously known as the "doigt de maintien)
Magazines were S**t too but they were CW stockpiles not supposed to last several years of draft and yet still used by draftees that are not the most carefull users.

Cleaning any Rifle can be a PITA, but it’s true that the FA-MAS was particularly tedious and the drill sergeant were particularly mean and demanding about us, supposed to understand how to clean/rebuild it in a record time. I got some slap on the head, and kick in the arse from them, when the Lieutenant wasn’t looking (@Mordoror know what I’m talking about...)

Oh yes
With some S**t and giggles episodes like the whole company creeping in the bushes to find a cheek protection plate lost by a man that didn't dared to declare it to the sarge....
or the well known "it is not clean enough, do it again for a few more hours" while the barrel was pristine shining
