My good Friend Popeye, thanks for the Gloria pictures. the ARC Gloria has been in the 2018 SAIL Reggatta since almost 6 to 8 months ago, traveling around the south, central and North America continent. I have the pleasure to know the vessel when my grand uncle was the Admiral and top Commander of the Colombian Navy.

Yeah I know they are IAI Kfirs mate, but the original design is from Dassault Mirage family of aircraft, almost everything out of that design bureau was beautiful :p

There are many stories about it, remember that Israel already had the Mirage III in their inventories before the birth of the Kfir, which is actually the motorization of a Mirage 5 with Phantom J74 engines; the legends speak of a Mossad stealing the plans, buying them from Dassault personnel or simply sending a copy to Israel of the lot of Mirage 5 that had been acquired and that was retained because of the war of the six days; so that will still be covered by the veil of the legend.

Blast from the past. From 1969:

Israeli officials had no comment today over charges that an engineer employed by one of Switzerland’s largest manufacturing firms sold Israel secret plans for an improved version of the French Mirage jet fighter plane. The charges were made in Berne on Friday by Federal Attorney Hans Walder against 43-year-old Alfred Frauenknecht, a technical department head at the Sulzer Engineering Co. in Winterthur. Sulzer manufactures jet engines of the Mirage III “S” planes under a license from the French firm of Marcel Dassault.

According to Mr. Walder, Mr. Frauenknecht admitted after his arrest that he sold 20 crates full of secret plans, records and tooling instructions to Israel for $200,000. The alleged transfer of the plans began in the fall of 1968, well after former President Charles de Gaulle imposed an embargo on 50 Mirage V jets that Israel purchased in France. The crates were reportedly passed to Israeli agents in West Germany through an unidentified relative of Mr. Frauenknecht who was not an employee of Sulzer. Israeli officials in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have refused to comment on the alleged affair which Mr. Walder described as “the biggest espionage affair in Switzerland since World War II.”

Exactly I have this Book long time ago and tells the same story; that the IAI Kfir is a result of the Israeli Inteligence Service, probably the Mossad. At that time the Kfir was the cheapest fighter and saw combat at the Yom Kippur War.
