AIRFIELD RESESRCH GROUP ARCHIVES - FREE JOURNALS
As many of you are following the governments guidance of staying in, the charity AIRFIELD RESEARCH GROUP (ARGL) would like to help fill you time. Over the next couple of weeks we will be making available a selection of our charity journals FREE for download through our website shop. The charity continues proudly to be widely regarded as the UK's foremost authority on the airfield historical record and the archive has grown into what is possibly the largest archive of 20th Century UK military history reference material outside of the various national collections.
Our physical archives: At Alconbury we currently hold over 100,000 slides and negatives of historical airfield photographs, a library of over 4,500 books, hundreds of airfield site plans, over 3,000 airfield and airfield building drawings from WWI onwards, large-scale Ordnance Survey maps and much more besides. A large amount of material on prefabricated buildings, both military and civil, is housed here, along with original papers on the Home Guard, ARP, numerous RAF Station publications, books and journals by aircraft manufacturers, rocketry research data, airshow programmes and some level of information on virtually every airfield in the UK.
