WOW, what a great start to this thread!

I had a chance to meet with Captain John F. Meier, the first Captain of the Gerald R. Ford. He was giving a talk, before commissioning, on the Ford, at the Ford Presidential Library.

EJ

Thanks to Santana for getting this thread commissioned.

I'll start with USS ESSEX, My ship, "The Oldest and the Boldest".
I was born 12 February, 1942, and 10 months later, 31 December 1942, my ship was born.
The 9th US carrier ever built and the first of a class of 24, she was built in 17 months and was the first new carrier sent to the Pacific after Pearl Harbor. The next 23 all came on line before the end of 1945.
I served aboard 18 years after she was commissioned, 1960 -s, after she had gone from a CV (WWII, "The Fightenest Ship in the Fleet - Take Notice) to a CVA, (Korea, ) and was the newest, most advanced CVS of that time.
A lot of my pics are as old as I am or older, so the quality is not the best, but they are what they are.
They are not sorted by era either, and span from 1942 to 1969.
