Sentinel on duty. The fighter is wearing the so-called "plash-palatka". This difficult thing became an element of the equipment of every soldier during the war years. A large piece of tarpaulin, it could serve as a rain cape, tent, blanket, or bedspread. The raincoat tent was attached to the back on the Soviet unloading system.

You may have noticed that in many photographs from that period, the fighters are very restrained, and sometimes even stern. In the 1960s, there were very few cameras, and soldiers rarely took photographs. Then the appearance of the so-called military romance had already begun. A girl was waiting for each fighter, and the soldiers tried to emphasize the importance of their service (including in the eyes of the girl). That is why harsh photographs were an indispensable attribute of that time.
