Another iconic Cold War vehicle. The French EBR-75. Used by the French and Portuguese armies, 1200 of recce vehicle were built from 1975 on. The original 75mm gun was too weak to knock out the main battle tanks of these times, so teh AMX-13 turret was fitted. The vehicle was 4WD, only the front and back wheels, the ones with rubber tires, were connected to the power pack. The wheels on the two middle axles were only lowered for off-road driving. Maximal speed was 115km/h and there were two drivers seats and hatches, at the front and at the back end of the vehicle, that way the EBR was able to reverse as fast as it could drive forward.

Corvin Lane in Budapest was the scene of the Hungarian revolutionaries' greatest success against the Soviet forces which had been dispatched to crush them during the uprising of October 1956.
Ultimately, of course, the Soviets prevailed but as these images show they did not have it all their own way.
