Mil News USA, Canada & Caribbean Nations Military News & Discussion Thread

very interesting - especially when you think the last two new planes we have seen officially out of the US stable were the F22 and the F35

there is a lot of time gone by and it will be interesting to see what they have up their sleeve

looking at the reports the other day from Iran someone seems to have something that can hover over their nuclear site - speed off at mach 10+ and has very extensive electronic countermeasures - so much for Ruski air defence

This guy seems to think a WW2 german guided bomb was used.....

There was a conversation on 4chan about 5 years ago, where a couple of anonymous posters discussed a super secret US aircraft program. They were very high mach speed, stealth bombers/recon aircraft. They had interchangeable mission bays. One for recon and one for strike. Pods could be interchanged in 12 hours. At the time it was claimed about 2 dozen of these aircraft existed, with about 2 being built every year. Each one was named after a military leader. Spirit of Patton, Spirit of LeMay, etc. The planes were called "Ghouls".

Their engines are so specialized that they must be overhauled or replaced after every mission. They can fly anywhere in the world in 3 hours or less.

About 15 of them were armed with nuclear weapons and on standby in underground shelters armed with 16 nuclear weapons each, the remainder do recon missions. They were supported by tankers modified to carry their exotic and unique fuel.

I had forgotten about all of that until this. Take it for what it's worth.

Pity 2495 is still not about - I see all sorts of stuff but it's difficult to define what is true and what is not

I'd accept the spec, and the general roles, perhaps with a conventional weapon as well.

If you slimmed the size of the fleet, and were very very selective with people, paid them alot, no-one can leave for 10 years type contract, then I'd say its possible.

Or

Toilet seats really do cost $100,000

Well.......it occurs to me that "black programs", which are off the books, require $100,000 toilet seats and $7,000 hammers. ;)

The last three Snowbirds tutor jets returned back to 15 Wing Moose Jaw from Kamloops last week.

The 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, also known as the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, have officially returned home.

According to the presentation, the new weapon system will consist of four transporter erector launchers (TEL), each installed on a modified M870 40-ton trailer, and command posts.
Each TEL will have two canisterized hypersonic weapons at the ready and the unit will have an unspecified number of additional missiles on hand.

“This SDA tracking layer is going to consist of a proliferated, heterogeneous constellation of WFOV space vehicles that provide persistent global coverage and custody capability. That’s going to combine with activities in the Missile Defense Agency as they build toward their Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) medium field of view (MFOV) space vehicles,” Acting Deputy Undersecretary for Research and Engineering Mark Lewis told C4ISRNET.

Raytheon Missiles Won a $239.1 million contract modification for StormBreaker (SDBII, GBU-53/B) production Lot 6. Designed to address critical troop needs, the StormBreaker can detect, track, and destroy stationary or moving targets with high-precision and stand-off range during the day and at night in all-weather conditions.

The GBU-53/B, originally known as the Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II), has a tri-mode guidance system able to find targets using imaging infrared or millimeter-wave radar, or using semi-active laser homing to hit a designated aimpoint. Depending on the altitude of the launching aircraft, the weapon can also glide up to 69 miles on its own using a GPS-assisted inertial navigation system, after which could strike a specific coordinate or begin searching for a target.

Just recently it was announced that the Air Force approved the bomb for use on the F-15. This means that the service will now be able to send the weapons downrange for use by F-15E squadrons Work under the modification will take place in Tucson, Arizona. Estimated completion date is November 28, 2023.
