U.S. Navy SEALs, Chilean SF, SOF Conduct VBSS Training​


U.S. East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Operators (SEALs) and Chilean Navy Special Forces conduct visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) training aboard the Chilean Navy replenishment oiler CNS Almirante Montt (AO-52) during SOUTHERN STAR ‘25 in Valparaíso, Chile, June 4, 2025. SOUTHERN STAR ’25 is a multinational special operations exercise taking place across Chile from May 26 to June 8. The exercise brings together forces from six nations and 10 observer countries, totaling more than 2,700 participants, to enhance interoperability and strengthen global special operations partnerships through joint training from Antofagasta to Punta Arenas.

U.S. Navy SEALs Train with Coast Guard MSRT in VBSS Training​


U.S. Naval Special Warfare operators and U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team (West) members aboard combatant craft assault boats, accompanied by an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter from the "Magicians" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 35, conduct visit, board, search, and seizure training in the Andaman Sea, Dec. 15, 2024. Naval Special Warfare provides maritime special operations force capabilities to enable Joint Force lethality and survivability inside denied and contested areas. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Operation Polar Dagger​

Operation Polar Dagger 2024​


In a joint effort, U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), U.S. East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Operators (SEALs) and U.S. Navy Special Warfare Combat Crewman (SWCC) conduct a Maritime Interdiction Operation (MIO) from the USS John L. Canley (ESB 6), a U.S. Navy Expeditionary Sea Base ship that supports a variety of maritime-based missions, in the Bering Sea, July 24, 2024. Operation Polar Dagger provided Special Operations Command North the opportunity to refine a range of capabilities and response options to deter, disrupt, degrade, and deny competitor activity in the Arctic in support of U.S. Northern Command and layered defense of the homeland.

Brett Shadle was born on March 17, 1982, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 31, 2000, and began active duty with basic training at NTC Great Lakes, Illinois, in July 2000. After completing basic training in September, he attended Information Technician A School until February 2001. Shadle then entered Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, followed by Basic Airborne and SEAL Qualification Training, completing the pipeline in April 2002. His first assignment was with SEAL Team FOUR at NAB Little Creek, Virginia, where he served until 2007 before joining the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) at Dam Neck, Virginia. Chief Petty Officer Shadle deployed multiple times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was tragically killed in a parachute training accident in Tucson, Arizona, on March 28, 2013. He now rests with honor at Arlington National Cemetery.
