During a three week basic summer course at the Sachkhere Mountain Warfare School in the Republic of Georgia, Marines are familiarized with movement techniques on special infrastructure, elevated terrain and mountains. Within PFP and billateral cooperation framework, Georgian instructors teach their American students rock climbing, the overcoming of obstacles, proper application of rules and equipment in theory and practice, as well as providing first aid and evacuation procedures. The course is held in different training centers in Sachkhere and Chiatura.

The Sachkhere Mountain Warfare School regularly hosts summer and winter courses with participation of NATO member and partner countries within NATO's Partnership for Peace Program, although this is the first case of USMC participation.
