The Unwomanly Face of War

The author - who received the Nobel Prize for literature - spent several years in the 80s interviewing Russian women who had served in WW2. (Called the Great Patriotic War there) Not just line infantry, snipers or pilots, interviewed were clerks, bakers, laundry staff and medical people to name a few categories. Their comments are extremely moving.

This book is very much worth reading, and I highly recommend it.

And notice the woman on the cover - that is the thousand yard stare!

The book is printed in England and can be found from a number of sources online.
