Politics The 2022 French Presidential Election/French politics thread

Macron really playing a Kennedy card with ridiculous pictures of him talking to Putin...What a narciss, and I´m sure the photo is a fake or he is irresponsible to talk to someone like Putin with the distraction of a photographer. Who else was in the room while he was talking to Putin? Was the cleaning lady vacuuming too? Or the waiter picking up the dirty lunch dishes?

Is he trying to lose?

@Jake84 - three more years..................................
Raising to 65? You guys are spoiled, we have it at 67 for men.
Here in Oz it's on a sliding scale based on your year of birth now. Used to be 65 for all....I was born in 1956 so my retirement age is 66.5, my brothers are 67 & 68 respectively :(

Just in case you missed the minute man's manifesto??
Zelasny for the win.

I mean the guy like Zelasny, not actually Zelasny, cos hes in a bunker in his capital, not washing, but on TV every 5 minutes.........

I´ll take a bet here.

Le Pen will come in second to macron and be in the second round.

And she will lose...but by a much lesser margin than in 2017. I believe the attention shift to Zemmour as being the new projection of horror will actually make her more presidential.
So this post from me is one and a half month old and as things are closing in for a first round on April 10th it does seem that Le Pen will come in second after Macron who benefitted from the war in Ukraine. Zemmour is crashing down, Pecresse could not pass as serious and professional enough, Melenchon is hoarding all the left votes or almost and did not suffer from being pro-Putin but that is not where votes are today.

But and this needs to be seen, I predicted that because of Zemmour voluntarily attracting anti immigration voters to him that Le Pen would not that be attacked and would be able to deploy her full set of ideas. She in fact has spoken little about immigration, a lot about buying power, and I am not the only one who thinks that the results on the second round will be much much closer than in 2017.

Because Macron is such a polarizing character, some people are starting to wonder if Le Pen (who is totally on the left economic policy wise) could not in fact...win.

I frankly fear a Mélanchon - Macron at the Second Turn.

And it sucks, because though I don't want to vote for Macron, I absolutely do NOT want to vote for Mélanchon.

LePen is usually portrayed as the worst thing that could happen to France, but frankly... Mélanchon is probably as bad, if not worst that LePen.

Mélanchon is a very, very good orator. He is very, very good at energizing the crowd. Even if you are not aligned with him, his ideas, or anything. He manages to create that kind of "euphoria" (may not be the rightest word though).

Don't think he needs any.

Fear of LePen getting elected is getting ramped, as usual, but, as usual, her chances to actually get elected are low.

Last time Macron got double her score.
And before that (in 2002) Chirac got a bit more than 80% against JM LePen.

Personally I have an itch to see Macron get burnt...It's all games to him and I very much doubt he is doing anything really statesmanship-like. His latest "Macron at war" attire really annoyed me...he's having fun...most french people are not.

Five years ago I wrote to a good friend to tell him that with his Macron candidate there was so much hope that he better deliver. And he has not.

Problem is the other solutions (other than Valerie Pecresse) are really not my cup of tea so I would need to settle with the idea.

Le Pen but also Melenchon have issues with abstentionnists that could throw a suprise either way. That is why both candidates know they have their voter pool decided for their ideas, they simply need them to get up and go vote.

Le Pen - Melenchon second round...LOL

I agree. Melenchon ideas are abhorrent but he has an analytical mind (in French esprit de synthese) that others don' t have or don' t show and get swamped with details.

He has a destination in mind and does'nt react to sudden gusts of wind. Of course his destination is a totalitarian state probably worse than anything even le Pen could come up with...so that' s a turn-off.

Telegraph always predicting the end is nigh. Someday they may be right. But there have been some 4884 days since the last crash that they were wrong.
If a right wing white woman president wins , this is going to be a rigged election.

Polish government is full of contradictions.
The Polish government won the elections in 2015 with help of people who have links to Russian politics and special services. During its rule, import of Russian coal skyrocketed. Some analytics say the government paid its political debt to Putin that way.

Anyway,
