Hi guys following on from my FV432 13/5 scale build I took on a wee build of this Sexton 1 7/6 scale.
This was my grandad's kit in the Second World War in Italy with 12 Regt RHA ( HAC ) but they didn't have it to long.... Before this his Regt had the M7 PRIEST which he started the Italian Campaign... with the Yanks. Having finished the Tunisia campaign in Africa with the 25pdr gun this was seen as a vast improvement.
The build went well with no major issues but the fine framework does need to be done slowly as it's prone to damage.

Both models look great side by side........

Nice build. Thanks for your granddad's service, and for his comparative assessment of the Sexton & the Priest. If I may ask, why did he think the British 88mm howitzer superior to the US 105mm?

Hi
Nansouty:
Hi I think that it was Purley familiarity with the British
25 PDR GUN (towed) and the British ammunition which they used in TUNISIA.

The BDR in the picture is believed to be my grandad there is a very close resemblance but we will never know

Thanks. Of course, a greater familiarity with the weapon counts. I'd asked because from I'd read about WW2, crews were fairly happy with the M7's gun. Got also a technical manual at home encompassing the use of the M7 in the French army. ;)

Hi Nansouty:
Both the M7 and the Sexton were good guns and was probably looked apon as a great improvement over the 25Pdr towed..... as in more manoeuvrable and compact.

Hi guys I have now got a selection of WW2 figures for the Priest and Sexton guns that I have one set is from PJB Hobby in Poland and they are a 3D print set of Six.

The other set is from
Wee Friends....and they are White metal figures and I have six of them.

On first impressions I'd go for the 3D print all the time as you can see you get a better finish. I will sort them all out into a crew set up for each vehicle.

Guys when I look into fine painting these figures which I'm not to confident in I will post some pictures and hopefully they will not be too bad.
I don't intend to go wild but if I can get the skin tone and clothing correct then that will do me

Hi guys the white metal figures are now cleaned up and with all the rough edges trimmed off and primed.... now I still haven't decided on the colour's to use but I'm still looking for a guide from the web 😁

Are you going to be painting them in DPM?

I've painted a lot of 1/100 and 1/72 DPM over the years.

Kiwi no these are for the sexton and priest that I have that my grandad had in the war so I'll have to do them in North Africa Campaign colours.... Flesh tones and sand, and more sand 🤣🤣. But there's a nack to getting it to look just right.

I'm looking at this at the moment....

Very good scratch! Adapting existing models to create others is always a laborious task that ultimately yields excellent results. I would recommend taking a look at the thickness of the driver's hatch pillars. They look very wide (of course, it could be the photograph) and they could use a bit of sandpaper for their finish. Otherwise, it's a spectacular job.
