On the occasion of the Romanian National Day December 1 2022 in Deva,
I had the pleasure to meet
Domnul General de Brigadă (rtr.) Ciocan Candin Ioan
Born - 22 decembrie 1922, în community of Blăjeni, Hunedoara.
At the start of WW2 he served in Batalionul nr. 7 Vânători de Munte din Deva. (Battalion 7 Mountain Hunters in Deva.)
later he went to the Military School of the Reserve at Radna as a student Sargent he participated in the heroic battle of „Poarta Mureșului” Gate to Mures, under the flag of drapelul „Detașamentului Păuliș” near Arad on the Western border with Hungary, where the outnumbered detachment members held off a superior Hungarian and Nazi SS attacking force with Armor.
He is the ultimate survivor of "Detachment Paulis."
After the war he trained as a mining engineer and he also founded the Veterans of War Association in Brad, Hunedoara County.
He received numerous awards from his service during the war, prior to the National day he held the rank of Colonel-in-Reserve but was granted a promotion by the President of Romania -
