I find the phrasing used to announce he passed away very sweet and touching.

"Returned to the home of the Father" is a very nice phrasing.

Just read some crazy check if the Pope is dead procedure. They used to tap him on the head with a tiny silver hammer, now they call him out 3 times by his birth name, if he doesn't reply they announce that the seat is empty then ring the tower bell. Also, any Catholic can become Pope if elected.
