There is a hostage situation at an Apple store in Amsterdam after someone with a firearm grabbed a bystander and retreated into the store. Likely a robbery gone bad by what looks to be two hostage takers. Another option being suggested is that the men were exiting the store after a normal visit and one of them was recognised by the police due to an out-standing warrant.

Hmm looks like this might be heading to the Terrorism thread. According to police the cordoned off area is being expanded as they believe a hostage taker may be wearing a suicide vest.

Specialist entry vehicle on scene.

One suspect may have been arrested, but seeing as there hasn't been any statement this might be incorrect. Place is still surrounded, so there are either still people on the loose, or the number of perps is unclear and preparations are under way for a tactical entry under the presumption that there is still an active threat.

I expect work for glass companies in the near future.

This is possible, but I’m thinking that just anyone wearing a suicide vest would self detonate in a crowd as opposed to taking a few hostages in a store.

Hell, Palestinians terrorists, those of London 2005, Manchester, Brussels and Paris blew themselves up in large crowds.

We’ll see what transpire of all of this. Serious incident anyhow.

To me based on some grainy photos it looks more like body armor covered by a jacket. Or the guy should get more bodily exercise ...

Looks like it's one guy in camo from head to toe. Witnesses report shots have been fired a few times intermittently.

Anyways I doubt his vest is rated to stop 300BLK, especially as it doesn't cover his face?

Does anyone know what the two light stripes on his chest might be?

Can't imagine they're reflectors, might as well shoot yourself in the face in that case.

A bit unclear all of this, one or several dudes looking to rob the store? Bit excessive for trying to snag a few iPhones, iPads to just literally risk getting shot to death by the cops over some overpriced items.

Maybe was terror related as you said, but a very clumsy attempt. As long as no one is hurt…

He looks to be wearing Airpods, so maybe a disgruntled customer. He's currently laying on the ground in the middle of the street after being engaged by CT operators with visible lasers on him. Based on how he's laying I'd say he's booked a one way trip to the Pearly Gates. EOD robot is checking him out. It looks like he will be filing his complaints about the Airpods with Steve Jobs himself ?

The police is still saying they think it was an attempted robbery.

A robot delivered a note to the store. The hostage taker sent the hostage to retrieve it. The hostage made a run for it with the hostage taker in pursuit.

The hostage taker demanded 200 million euros worth of cryptocurrency + a way out. Shot at police on four occasions.

He was wearing a bomb vest, but this turned out to be fake. Does suggest that the hostage taking was planned though.

Four people hid themselves in a closet inside the store throughout the ordeal. Apple is likely to release an iCloset of €500 that retails for €2500 in their summer of 2022 line-up based solely on trending hashtags. Contrary to previous reporting the hostage did not escape while fetching a note, but while retrieving water that the robot dropped off. I'm sure that wasn't spiked at all.

The guy is a 27 year old resident of Amsterdam (that can mean anything, from illegal alien to wanted felon hiding out in one of the least policed cities in western Europe).

The car is doing ok given the circumstances.
