Warfare Northwestern Aleppo offensive (2024)

Reading plenty of random commentary about this one. Odd thing is from 2011 - onwards and a decade of a bloody mess and civil war no one could even topple Assad, which is in great part thanks to his now host Vlad.

Then a bit over a week of an insurgency the entire Assad clan has to flee to Moscow because of some middle aged men with stubbles to full beard on trucks with AK-47.
I've been thinking, how it's even possible.
The simplest explanation I came up with - with Hezzies and Russians mostly out of the pictures, there was simply no hope to win and no will to fight on the Assad forces' part.

It most likely is this, as simplistic as you point out. Sometimes one doesn’t need to complicate things further although Syria is complex both in politics and population: your assessment is accurate.

No, absolutely not.
if they have been granted residence, why would they?

If its safe, and they have saved a few thousand $ they can go back and buy/rebuild the best house in their village, and still have the ace of a NATO rescue etc if things go wrong, which they probably will.

Anyway, "unconfirmed rumors" about an Il76 carrying Assad being shot down while on its way to the Allawite enclave. I suppose the origins of that rumor is the Il76 took off from Damascus, headed towards Tartus/Latakia, turned around pas the mountains, dropped altitude and signal got lost.

Additional rumors are it got shot down by Russian forces in that region. Could be an accident, but it could also be the Kremlin decided to give Assad the Prigozhin treatment.
I just had a laugh when I read it a few hours ago.
The RuZZians are not so stupid to treat a dictator the same way as they treated a criminal who was a byatch in prison. Don't confuse cruelty with stupidity.
The other Third World dictators would get this message and their relationships with RuZZia would go to the sh1tter. The Orcs cannot afford it.

Turkey is in "no touchy our booty!", Syria is their own de-facto chasse-gardée.

Does this mean she’s single?

On the other hand, they are in countries providing for all of their needs without them having to contribute much.

Why would they go back to their country where they have nothing and will have to rebuild their entire life from 0.

Nah, she is fine and so is her hubby.

Merely rumors thrown around, repeated and amplified by a variety of news agregators. Funnily enough mostly from NAFOids.

Anyway, could have happened, would have even made things easier for everybody. His family (wife and kids) is basically irrelevant, being safe is unlikely to have any future impact; unless his kids decide to go on a full "I'll avenge my father!!!" quest. Which is unlikely. Having them killed... heh... some would feel good about it I suppose, but ultimately that would have been gratuitous, imho.

Cancelling Assad's membership to the living-club would have, yes, made things easier and possibly better. Assad regime is over in Syria and it isn't coming back, but with Assad dead any chance of revival would be like pouring cement on that tomb, plus that would burry his "legacy" along with, to some extent, bringing closure to the Syrian people. The Tyrant is dead, over and done.

Was probably a mistake on Russia's part not to do it, plus they could have played the plausible deniability card "we didn't know it was him" or pinning the blame on someone else (perhaps the rebels would have been happy to get credited for it), but that also probably was part of the whole deal brokered about the, relatively peaceful, collapse of Syria.

What a profound demonstration of unintended consequences.

14 months ago:

Hamas calling the Iranian Mullahs: "Hey bro, what's up? We've got this idea, we will invade Israel, murder, rape and mutilate thousands of civilians, including women and children...and get this...we will live stream it!"

Mullahs: "Great idea! Now you're thinking! What could go wrong?!?! I'll even get the Hezzies to give you back up. Send me pics, this will be awesome!!!"

Amazing what an unbelievable clusterfark this became for Iran.
