Australian soldiers are being ferried in a small craft, possibly a DUKW, near the troop transport HMAS Sydney on its arrival in North Borneo (Sabah). The ship was carrying army units and their equipment to Malaysia under Australia's increased Defence aid program. The men are probably members of the 7th Field Squadron or 111 LAA Battery.

Australian SAS patrol in Borneo. The unit enters a village at 0:20 to have tea and a chat. This was a vital means of building trust with local people and, in return, getting to hear rumours about enemy activity

We actually started conscription up again for Borneo, but then Vietnam really kicked off and the Confrontation settled down quicker than anticipated.

Men of a Light Regiment of the RA fire an Italian-made L5 105mm pack howitzer (Oto Melara 105mm Mod 56) from a position somewhere in East Malaysia, on the Island of Borneo, during the Indonesian Confrontation, circa. 1964.

The Mod 56 pack howitzer was originally designed for Italy's Alpini mountain troops and fired standard US / NATO 105mm M1 shells.

It was lightweight, air-portable and could bebroken down into convenient loads for transportation when necessary.

In British service it was usually towed by a Land Rover.

Trophy of their action in the Malaya jungle, a banner carried by the Red guerrilla troops, is exhibited by three British soldiers who captured the flag in a fierce action, in which Liew Kon Kim, notorious Communist leader, and two other Red Terrorists were slain.
