Hello, I am a public policy researcher (surveys, focus groups, interviews, etc.). Recent work focused mostly on regional collaboration among community colleges, economic development agencies, and employers from regionally-important industry sectors.
I found this site while doing personal research about my German heritage. An ancestor of mine was a student at the Munich Academy of Art in 1870-82. During his time in Munich he helped organize the American section of two International Art Exhibitions held in Munich (1883 and 1888). To recognize his extraordinary efforts, he was awarded the Merit Cross of the Order of St. Michael. The whereabouts of the medal is unknown. I am hoping that one of you can offer some guidance on the Merit Cross. Would like to know more about the medal: A picture would be great, also how the medal was awarded, and how it was regarded in Munich.
I am writing a story about my ancestor's life and and the times in which he lived. It would wonderful to include info about the medal (and hopefully a photo of one) in conjunction with the discussion about his role in the Exhbitions.
FYI, I used one of my ancestor's paintings ("The First Snow") in my bio for this site.
