The first of 160 F-16’s for Belgian Air Force were delivered in 1979. The Fighting Falcon has been serving the Belgian Air Force quite well for years although the number of operational aircraft was reduced over the number of years. Nowadays 54 F-16’s are still operational, divided over the airbases Kleine Brogel and Florennes. 34 F-35’s have been ordered to replace the Falcon in the future.

From May 7 to 21, some 160 paratroopers from the 3rd Parachute Battalion (3 Para) trained in the wild landscapes of northern Scotland. Exercise Red Condor took them through forests, fjords, and mountains—by land, sea, and air.
Aboard Zodiacs, they discreetly approached the coast to reach their objectives from the sea. By helicopter, they were dropped onto buildings to practice precision operations. They climbed over 3,000 meters in altitude during a grueling march to the summit of Ben Nevis, the United Kingdom's highest mountain.
An incident on May 12 during a shooting exercise injured three soldiers and deeply affected the group. But despite this, the battalion continued its mission.
The priority: cooperation, commitment, and perseverance. "Our company commanders planned complex operations more than 100 km from their base, mobilizing various resources," emphasizes Lieutenant Colonel Winnepenninckx.
"Red Condor wasn't a comfortable training exercise. It was realistic, intense, and forged our troops both physically and mentally".

A Belgian detachment is currently undergoing intensive training at CENZUB, a unique urban training center in Europe, to obtain the necessary certification for deployment to Romania in the coming months. This deployment is part of Belgium's commitment to fully supporting NATO and contributing to the strengthening of Europe's eastern flank.
CENZUB offers a realistic environment, including a zone simulating a city of 5,000 inhabitants. The 1/3 Lancers Battalion, accompanied by the Ardennes Chasseurs Battalion, the 4th Engineer Battalion, the 4th Logistics Battalion, the 4th CIS Group, the MP Group, the 23rd Medical Battalion, and a Luxembourg detachment, together form an integrated Belgian-Luxembourg force.
