The Germans introduced the FN in the late 50's as the G1 and remained in service until the early 60's and was replaced by a Spanish CETME which was redesigned and became the G3.

"West Germany ordered 100,000 additional FALs, designated the G1, for the army. FN made the rifles between April 1957 and May 1958. G1s served in the West German Bundeswehr for a relatively short time in the late 1950s and early 1960s, before they were replaced by the Spanish CETMEModelo 58 rifle in 1959 (which was extensively reworked into the later G3 rifle)."
