On April 5, 2022 in the barracks of the 1st "Warszawska" Armoured Brigade in Wesoła took place the ceremony of signing an intergovernmental agreement with the United States for the purchase by Poland of 250 M1A2SEPv3 Abrams tanks.
I think it would make more sense to go with K2 or Leo 2A7 instead of Abrams. Poland is already operating LEOs, there would be more commonality with these tanks. Also, diesel engine is easier to maintain and cheaper to operate than tribune engine.

In quieter times - You're right. I think that this decision resulted from two premises - intelligence signals about the growing threat and the unification of equipment with the US Army forces on NATO's eastern flank. I don't like this solution too much, but the available Leopard 2 is hard to come by now.
The hope is that the program to acquire a completely new tank (code-named "Wilk" - "Wolf" in English) has not been canceled. The ideal would be if the production of this tank was in Poland. It is worth observing what Norway will choose - they now have a slightly similar situation to Poland.
